Rangers Apprentice Bday Gift by JazzZi13 Rangers Apprentice Bday Gift by JazzZi13
Just a Birthday present I made for my friend.
Its based of a book series called Rangers Apprentice that my friend really likes.
In the series the Rangers all wear oak leaf pendants (bronze for apprentice and silver for Ranger)
So I made her a Rangers oak leaf necklace, though made out of aluminium not silver, using craft files and an engraver

This is great! I love it! I would totally wear this like every day! It is very cool and in my mind very much like the ones in the books!

Could you post some instructions to how to make this? I want to make one and have a contest for it.

Its quite simple really,
*you just get a leaf or a picture of one to use as a template (if you use a real leaf I find its
easier to laminate it, that way it will stay in a flat/fixed position)
*use some cellotape to stick your template to the piece of metal that your using and use a scriber
to outline the shape (if your using aluminium, colouring the metal before marking out your shape
with a marker pen will help show the outlines and can be easily washed off afterwards with
methylated spirits)
*then you just clap the metal in a vice and use either craft-files or a dremel to file away the metal
around the lines (a dremel most likely wont be as precise as craft-files, but the files do take
awhile, there maybe a better way than files or dremels, but I dont know it :( )
*as for making a hole for a necklace, you will need to use a centre punch with a hammer to make a
dent where you want the hole to be, (this will stop the drill from wandering away from where you
want the hole) have the metal leaf secure in the vice and use a power-drill/dremel to make the hole
(ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN YOU DRILL)
*make sure there are no sharp edges on the metal leaf, if there are just use a craft-file to make it
smooth.

It looks like a lot but there really not much to it, I hope that gives enough detail for you :)

Haha. Well I finally got one. :) It looks different, but it's still a silver oak leaf.
